Went with him [JT Moggeridge] and Mudd to Wicken Fen...We did not find Aster salignus, from a mistake. 9.7.1868. Bab.Mem.209.

Wicken Fen, as A. salignus, grows only in Wicken Fen in C. and on the banks of the Tay near Perth, WA Dutt, 1891, det. PF Yeo 1972, CGE.

I learn from Mr Goode (in a letter from Mr CE Salmon) that it was originally so named by a Mr A Bennett who had it on the authority of Prof Asa Gray that our Wicken Fen plant was wrongly named and should be called A. Novii-Belgii. Mr Bennett grew specimens received from Mr Goode, and no doubt his examination of them decided him to retain the name A.salignus in 'Lond.Cat.' Coll. G Goode com. JA Wheldon, BEC Rept (label) 1897, p.551.
